Requirements

  • A Windows PC
  • MediaTek USB Driver
  • A USB Cable
  • MediaTek powered smartphone
  • Latest flash file or stock firmware

Steps to Flash MediaTek Smartphone using SP Flash Tool

Step 1: Download Firmware Based on Smartphone Model

First, you need to download the official flash file for your device to start the flashing process. Each model has individual stock firmware. Also, each model has multiple firmware files based on locations and countries. We have published many Stock Firmware files for various handset models. So browse our Stock Firmware category and download the latest flash file on your computer.

Step 2: Extract the Flash File

After downloading the firmware file, you will get a zip file. So using any file extractor, unzip the folder on your PC, and you will see various files. Check and remember these file locations because you will need them later.

Step 3: Download and Install MTK USB Driver

A USB driver is an all-in-one software program for Windows PC that allows desktop computers to detect the connected device. However, you must install the correct USB driver that means if you want to connect a MediaTek powered phone to a PC, you will need to download and install MTK USB Driver or MediaTek VCOM driver corresponding to the device models. Luckily, we have listed all available USB drivers for MediaTek phones based on models.

Step 4: Install and Launch SP Flash Tool

The SP Flash Tool is our favourite tool when we recommend flashing the stock ROM. The user interface is easy for everyone. We have posted about SP Flash Tool on our site. Download SP Flash Tool latest version and extract the zip file. After extracting, you will get the setup file that looks like flash_tool.exe. Now double click on the setup file and install it by following the on-screen instructions. After installing this flash tool correctly, launch this tool.

Step 5: Load Scatter File

When the flash tool is launched, click on the Scatter-Loading File option and locate the Scatter File from the extracted firmware folder. The Scatter File will look like MT6572_Android_scatter.txt, and after selecting the exact scatter file, click on the Open button.

Step 6: Untick the Preloader

After loading the scatter files, you have to untick the Preloader option because Preloader.bin may brick the device. Then click on the download button from above that will begin the flashing process.

Step 7: Put your MediaTek Device in Download Mode and connect to the PC

Switch off your device and press power + volume down + home to enter download mode. However, a few older phones use a different button combination. After entering your device to download mode, connect the device to PC using a USB data cable.

Step 8: Flash the Stock ROM

After connecting the device to the PC, the stock ROM flashing will begin automatically. The whole flashing process usually takes 10-15 minutes depending on the speed, and your device will take a few extra minutes to reboot it. After rebooting the device, you will see the custom ROM is running. However, after installing the new firmware, you cannot go back to the old firmware. When the flashing is completed, a green tick mark will show up on the screen.

Step 9: Close the Flash Tool and Disconnect the MTK Device

When you see the green tick mark, you are done. Using this simple tool, you have completed flashing the device accurately. Now close the flash tool on your Windows desktop and disconnect the smartphone.

Warning: As you have already known that flashing requires expertise to perform the process correctly. If anything goes wrong, you may brick your device. Also, flashing wipes out everything from the phone. So before flashing or rooting the device, take a full backup. Also, we recommend knowing everything steps you are doing. However, using this tool, if you brick the device, MTKArena.com will not be responsible for your action.
